Why It Matters

I was just so happy because I completed a program successfully without giving up. I was nervous, but I did it… and I was SO proud of myself.

Our Impact

Every year, thousands of children in the Charlotte area are abused or neglected. Thousands more witness domestic and community violence and suffer the effects of bullying. Often trapped in challenging situations without immediate solutions or easy access to resources, these children suffer unimaginable trauma. As they age, many turn to gang activity, drug and alcohol abuse, and other harmful behaviors that perpetuate the cycle of violence they have experienced.

And yet, there’s hope for these children to mend their spirits through the therapeutic power of art. Abused children who participate in the arts routinely cite their arts involvement as a means of redirecting their lives and counteracting the negative effects of their circumstances.
